列車を降り由布院の駅を出た時に、正面に見える由布岳は曇り空であまり美しいとはいえなかった。
少しがっかりしたのですが程なく駅前でレンタル自転車に乗り佛山寺に向かいました。
佛山寺ではひと通り見て回ったのち、由布岳にゆかりのあるこの仏に晴れますようにと願って、
本堂の賽銭箱に左のポケットにある500円と100円以外の小銭を全部入れました。
翌日は雨の予想だったが、みごとに晴れて驚きました。

西暦964年ごろに開山したと伝わる、本尊は由布霊山観世音菩薩。
始めは由布岳の中腹にあり天台宗の寺院であったが、西暦1596年に起きた大地震により倒壊、
現在はこの場所にて禅宗で臨済宗妙心寺派の寺院になった。
由布岳の山岳信仰や観光地として有名なお寺です。
