真言宗の総本山。

京都市東山区にある、鷲峰山 (じゅぶさん) 高台寺。
亡き豊臣秀吉を弔うために正室 (正妻)の北政所 (ねね)が寺院の建立を願い西暦1606年に設立。
はじめは禅宗で曹洞宗の寺院だったが、西暦1624年に同じく禅宗の建仁寺派に改宗、本尊は釈迦如来。
禅宗ならではの季節折々の庭園に、ねねという女性の主ならではの繊細な趣がある寺院と言われている。
近くには、北政所 (ねね)の終焉の地とされる同じく建仁寺派の円徳院がある。
